The Department of Sanskrit was established in the year of 1961, the same year the college was founded. Two courses were introduced – Pre-University Course and B.A Pass Course. Pre-University course was replaced by Higher Secondary Course in 1976.
Salient Features: Two course are being taught since 2001 – B.A. Hons. Course (Sanskrit Advanced) B.A. General Course (Sanskrit General).

Medium of Instruction: Bengali, English & Sanskrit.

Classroom lectures strictly are following text books. It is mandatory for students to follow text books in classroom.

Learning Devnagari script is mandatory.

Co-curricular activities like elocution, recitation and staging drama in Sanskrit to develop oratory skill in the language side by side with writing skill.

Remedial classes for better assimilation of the subject.
